£15,000 for a bottle of whisky!

After much speculation a bottle of Glenavon *** Special Liqueur whisky sold for almost £15,000 at the Bonhams sale of fine wine, port and spirits in London last night. Reputedly distilled sometime between 1851 and 1858, this is an exceptionally rare piece and one that raised a high level if interest in the collector’s market. It does raise a question though, why pay all that money for one bottle? It is extremely old and rare, but how will its new owner enjoy it? A fine work of art can be viewed and appreciated, but it is only by drinking whisky that you can really appreciate all the effort that went into creating it. I suspect that this bottle may never be opened, but who could blame the owner for that.

Back to reality, we are only a few days away from the launch of the new Whisky Connoisseur website - www.enjoywhisky.com - keep your eyes peeled over the next few days for it launching live online.
